St. Gabriel's Church

The construction of the church named after the Holy Father Gabriel began at Bodbe Monastery in 2023 and is currently in progress.

Who was Father Gabriel?

Saint Father Gabriel, in the world Goderdzi Urgebadze, was a Georgian archimandrite and confessor-fool-for-Christ, canonized by the church in 1995. In his youth, he built a church in his own yard and became a monk during the communist regime, which was rare for that time. In 1965, he burned a portrait of Lenin and for this, he endured various forms of persecution, including torture and confinement in a psychiatric institution. Saint Father Gabriel performed many miracles during his life. At the end of his life, he lived in Mtskheta, where after his death, his grave became a holy place for believers. According to tradition, the oil from his grave has healing properties.
